About Lyn

Lyn Donald is a contemporary visual artist and art teacher on the Sunshine Coast. She is a professional award-winning artist and enthusiastic art educator with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.  She has been teaching art is various forms for about 30 years and the current Drawing and Painting Certificate Course for the past 10 years.

Through her art education programs, she has shared her knowledge and love of art to hundreds of people over the years. It gives her great pleasure to help others unlock their full potential and reap the rewards of happiness, self-awareness and self-fulfilment that come from creating original art.

Lyn’s art varies from bold, large, colourful florals in a detailed, contemporary realism style, to detailed tonally shaded graphite drawings, and coloured pencil artworks.  In portraying these subjects from nature, Lyn celebrates the joy and beauty in life.  She is driven by the challenge of capturing the essence and beauty of her subject before it fades or is lost forever, as the transitory nature of everything we love in life is only for a moment.  Lyn has a Diploma of Fine Arts/Visual Arts and has exhibited widely in both group and solo exhibitions.

She feels strongly that creating art is her life purpose, her way of adding happiness to the world.  This also includes helping others to release their own creativity so they too can enrich their lives producing good art.  For this reason, she loves to teach drawing, painting and coloured pencil to children and adult age students in a live weekly classroom through her education programmes.

MY ARTISTS MISSION

Beauty is everywhere, even in the most mundane things.  Our mission as artists is to transform the “ordinary” into something extraordinary.

ART IS A JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY AND APPRECIATION OF EVERYTHING AROUND US AT A DEEPER LEVEL

Whether the Artist or the viewer, I like my art to make your soul sing and to stop for a moment and imagine yourself to be in this place – that your daily cares and worries are left far behind.  A moment of contemplation and mediation.

“An appreciation of everything around us at a deeper level” says Lyn Donald, a visual artist and art teacher on the Sunshine Coast.

Lyn says she believes that beauty is everywhere, even in the most mundane things and the mission of artists is to transform the “ordinary into extraordinary”.

Her love of colour and nature, she says, comes from growing up on the Sunshine Coast and being “instantly inspired” when her aunty bought her painting when she was just four-years old.

“From then on, I spent every spare minute drawing and painting, and every bit of pocket money on kid’s art Supplies.

“Later my love of painting and drawing intensified when living in remote areas of the Pilbara and Uluru when working as a National Park Ranger.  Every day was a changing feast of red earth, mulberry coloured mountains, and sanguine bushes.  Even in the nothingness landscape beautiful flowers bloom, if you are patient, observant and inquisitive” says Lyn.

Best known for her contemporary, colourful floral paintings and her more detailed works of tonally shaded graphite drawings, Lyn says she’s inspired by the “small detail in nature that people would normally overlook”.

Things like, “how that small stamen erupts from the folded petals in the centre of the flower, or how interesting the wrinkles fall on worn, work weary hands”.

Lyn says everything in life is transitory, “particularly beauty and nature”, and her drive to capture the essence and beauty of her subject before it fades is evident in her passion to share her creations.

“I feel creating art is my life purpose.  It’s my way of adding happiness to the world”.

“This also includes helping others release their often-smothered creativity, so they too can enrich their lives…to show people that if one has a desire, art can be a learned talent just like learning to play the violin or drive a car, and is not limited to the people born with artistic ability” says Lyn.

Lyn has taught art in various forms for a number of years in acrylic, graphite, charcoal and silk dyes and says she focuses on “tone, colour, perspective, drawing skills and a strong balanced composition”.

“I teach both drawing and painting to teenage and adult students in live weekly art classes, workshops, open days, and fairs”

Lyn’s long-term ambition and desire is to be the “best possible artist she can be in her life time” and to use her skills to encourage and inspire others.

Testimonials

I joined Lyn’s class after trying to “teach” myself by joining various workshops with a variety of artists over many many years.  I was attracted to Lyn’s Complete Drawing and Painting course because it was structured with all the information and techniques that a novice artist like myself needs to be able to produce good art – all in one place. Initially I just wanted to paint, and I could apply paint very well, but my artwork just didn’t improve.  I soon found that quality artwork takes more than just good painting skills and all the techniques learnt during the whole course consolidated into achieving my goal of producing professional quality art. Lyn’s teaching style is one of great patience and she has an excellent ability to explain concepts in a manner which is easily understood.   I would recommend Lyn’s course to anyone who wants to produce high quality artwork.  Ian King

Lyn’s extensive knowledge and patient teaching style has not only allowed me to become proficient in the use of coloured pencil as an artistic medium, but has allowed me to develop an entirely new passion!                                                                                                            Thanks to Lyn, I am creating beautiful artwork and coloured pencils are definitely now my preferred instrument allowing for detailed composition, colour intensity and portability.  I highly recommend Lyn’s course to any burgeoning artist.                                                                    Tania Small

My long-held goal was to learn to draw and paint. I had tried in the past but found it daunting and struggled with procrastination.  I joined the Complete Drawing and Painting Certificate course and then the Coloured Pencil Course.  I was amazed to discover what I have been able to produce and especially being able to “paint” with coloured pencil.  Lyn’s teaching skills and learning how to develop 3-dimensional depth and tone with coloured pencil has been an inspiration.  I am excited by the possibilities it will give me to progress on my own art journey.    Barbara Folley

Even though I have been involved in art all my life and painting regularly for 10 years, my family, friends and especially myself are amazed at what I have been able to produce in the Complete Drawing and Painting course. All the techniques learnt consolidated into a wonderful learning experience about art and myself.  I have learnt so much and have gained so much confidence along the way.  I would not hesitate to recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn drawing and painting.  Sherri Smith
